Description:
These are the main skills/competencies required:
• Proven experience as a machinist or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment. Strong competency with mills, lathes, and other machine shop equipment; both manual and CNC • Strong knowledge of machining processes, tools, and equipment • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications • Experience inspecting machined parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision instrumentation to ensure compliance with specifications. • Studies and records time, motion, methods, and speed to improve efficiency and establish a standard production rate in performance of maintenance, production, clerical, and other worker operations. • Requires a high school degree or its equivalent with 4-6 years of experience in the field. • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. • May direct and lead the work of others. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Manual & CNC Machining
• Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, and related machine‑shop equipment. • Independently set up, program, and run CNC machines, including creating toolpaths, selecting tooling, and validating machining strategies. • Create, modify, and maintain fixturing required for machining complex prototype and development components.
Programming & Technical Execution
• Generate CNC programs and machining instructions using CAD/CAM inputs (drawings, sketches, models, or conceptual ideas). • Troubleshoot machining operations and adjust speeds, feeds, tooling, and workholding as needed for quality, accuracy, and safety.
Quality & Documentation
• Inspect machined parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision instrumentation to ensure compliance with specifications. • Document work performed, maintain machining notes, and communicate changes or challenges to engineering partners. • Follow all shop safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.
